Detailed Itinerary

Palccoyo – The Other Side of the Rainbow
  • Your adventure begins with a scenic drive from Cusco toward the remote highlands of the Andes. As you travel farther from the city, the landscape transforms into vast valleys, traditional communities, grazing alpacas, and impressive mountain scenery.
  • Upon arrival, you will begin a gentle walk through the high-altitude landscape toward the Palccoyo Rainbow Mountains. Unlike a single viewpoint, this area offers a series of naturally colored mountains spread across the landscape, creating a spectacular panorama of reds, ochres, greens, and earthy tones.
  • As you explore the area, your guide will introduce you to the geological and cultural stories behind this unique landscape while allowing you time to enjoy the scenery and take photographs.
  • The experience continues toward the remarkable Stone Forest, where tall rock formations emerge from the mountainside. Shaped naturally over thousands of years, these formations create an almost surreal landscape and provide impressive views across the surrounding Andes.
  • Throughout the route, the imposing presence of Ausangate and the surrounding peaks adds another dimension to the experience, reminding you just how vast and powerful the Andean landscape can be.
  • After exploring Palccoyo and taking in the mountain scenery, you will begin the return journey to Cusco, leaving behind one of the quieter and most fascinating corners of the Peruvian highlands.
